Detox Cleansing Diet – A Rationale

By admin on March 9, 2010

You may have overheard people talking about detox diets recently. Or, you may be one of those that have been over heard. Whichever you find yourself to be, the topic of body detoxification has become more common in recent years. And, for those in the USA, a proactive approach to personal health care is essential in these days of health care reform.

Many have realized that its in their best interest to get ahead of the slow political process and start practicing preventive health care on their own. A detox cleansing diet is just that. Having your own personal detox program not only is a source of more energy, but it can also be a means of preventing more serious health care problems in your future. To understand this let’s look at what a detox dieting program is and does.

So, what is a detox cleansing diet program? Simply put, it’s adopting specific eating or drinking patterns and ingredients that help your body clean itself from toxins and chemicals that may have accumulated inside of it. However, a more detailed answer would be something like the following: It is a program that uses fasting, food, drink, or supplements to target the specific organs of elimination and assist them in their efforts to rid your body of poisons and toxins that have accumulated over time and that are probably affecting or will affect your health in the future.

There are many ways to perform a detox program. Some are as simple as fasting for 1 day and giving your digestive tract a break. Others involve consuming specific food or drink products to achieve the goal of cleansing the body. Generally, with any detox program there are specific parameters of time and foods consumed. Some people detox for as long as a month. As you can imagine, to perform this type of program, there is a fair degree of planning and determination that goes into it.

To get the best results of whichever detox program a person chooses, it is necessary to research and investigate just what is available and what type of results have been achieved.

Also, before you decide to start your personal detox cleansing diet, you will want to confer with your professional health care adviser. Many people have pre-existing health conditions that may contra-indicate a severe or rigid detox program. On the other hand, your professional health care advisor might even have a few suggestions as to how you may get the most out of a detox program.

There are also many resources that you can find online to help guide you to a better understanding of what’s involved in a body detox diet. You can find many websites that offer mini email courses that can point you in the right directions. These email courses are generally delivered right to your email box and come every other day or so. All the best with your quest for better health.

Diets For Diabetics

By admin on March 7, 2010

The consumption of food is necessary for human life to continue. However, those who are diabetic must learn to look at food in a totally different light. Food is a necessity and the wrong food can kill them.

Diabetics cannot engage in recreational eating like most of the rest of the world. A diabetic must PLAN his or her diet in advance and then must stick strictly to the plan.

There are lots and lots of theories, diets and theories about diets for diabetics out there. Basically most all diabetics are instructed to eat approximately 16 calories per pound of body weight per day. That is….if the ideal weight is 130 pounds you should eat about 2080 calories per day (130 x 16). This total is adjusted for people that are big boned or small boned…but that’s the average.

People who need to lose weight…and most people who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes do….the recommended diet consists of between 1500 and 1800 calories per day.

Carbohydrates should account for only about 50% of the daily caloric intake in a diabetic diet. Diets that are even lower in carbohydrates can benefit diabetics but the use of low carb diets should be discussed with the diabetic’s physician or dietitian.

Blood sugar testing is essential to maintaining acceptable blood sugar levels for a diabetic. Type 1 diabetics must regulate the timing of food intake with the timing of their insulin injections to maintain an optimum level. Type 2 diabetics are not given insulin so overall just overall caloric intake over each 24 hour period usually satisfies the problem.

If you are someone you love has been diagnosed with diabetes (either type 1 or type 2) food has become an issue that needs to be addressed. The doctor will very likely refer the patient and his family to a dietitian.

How to Diet For Fast Weight Loss – Blow Away Your High School Reunion

By admin on March 6, 2010

Therefore, while you are trying to diet for fast weight loss, you will not have to resort to desperate or extreme measures at the very last minute. Keep reading for some tips regarding your diet for fast loss for you high school reunion.

Be Realistic

Even with a few months notice, you are not going to be able to lose 75 pounds. Instead of setting impossible goals, look at how much time you have and then set a realistic goal based on that timeframe. In general, it is possible to lose between two and three pounds per week. So, if you have three months until your reunion, your weight loss goal could be around 36 pounds.

How to Stick With the Atkins Diet

By admin on March 5, 2010

I wrote an article recently about why so many people fail with the Atkins diet. As one with personal experience at failing with this diet, more than two dozen times, I know how to quit and why people quit. I’ve continued to try the diet because I know that when my body is on this diet, nothing feels better. So, for the last time, I have tried the diet, and now it has stuck. So, what were the difference and what is the key to making a low carbohydrate diet work.

The beginning of the diet is the easy part. You know that during the induction phase, you are only going to consume 20 net grams of carbohydrates per day. But, what do you do after two weeks? How do you begin adding carbohydrates back into your diet? What kinds of carbs are best to add at the beginning? My best advice is to do a Google search for Atkins success stories. These people will tell you how they did it. That is what got me out of the induction and into a new way of life. You need a plan if you’re going to make it.

The second piece of advice is to make sure you have variety. You need more than eggs, meat and cheese. My whole world opened up when I did a Google search for low carbohydrate recipes. There is a vast menu for the induction phase, as well as how to have a normal life with a variety of meal options and good tasting, low carbohydrate desserts. When I found these recipes, I was eating low carb pizzas, Mexican food, cookies, cakes, breads, and more. You need variety if you are going to make it.

Dr. Atkins from the very beginning has said that exercise is not optional. In my previous attempts I never exercised. I always thought I would wait to drop some weight before I would begin moving. You cannot do that. You need to begin moving from day one. One of the best feelings in the world is not only losing the weight, but getting stronger at the same time. I worked out on the Bowflex three or four times per week. Exercising is one of the key differences that has helped me stay with this life style.

In previous attempts I had been drinking too much diet soda and not enough water. This time, I have been drinking at least two to three liters of water per day in the beginning. I still enjoyed a cup of coffee, tea, or a diet soda throughout the week, but I focused on water. Some studies show that caffeine and Nutrasweet can inhibit weight loss as well. Plus, the water really helps flush and cleanse your system. When you are burning off fat with this diet, your body needs the extra water to help flush that out of your system.

Finally, I made use of my doctor. I told my doctor that I was doing the Atkins diet. He wanted to steer me in another direction to try the South Beach diet or something like it, but I knew the low carb way of life and wanted to do that. I had blood work done and had my lab work repeated one month later, then three months after that. My doctor was greatly impressed by the improvements as I went along. More than anything, it helps you know that there are more important numbers to watch than just your weight. Knowing what is going on in the inside gives you further motivation.

These five things have made all the difference in the world for me. I believe it is the best diet for me and the changes I made this time have helped me not only stick with this diet, but have made it a way of life.

How to Convert Your Cat to a Quality Diet

By admin on February 28, 2010

You’ve made a decision. Your cat’s diet must change, for reasons of health and economics. Now you need to learn how to convert your cat to a quality diet.

Cats are not that easy to convince a change is good for them. Dogs are much easier to make changes with. They accept most food with enthusiasm, except when ill. Cats are very different. Whether it’s the appetite stimulants put into cat food, or whether cats dislike change, the reason is unimportant.

In practical terms, you can have a hard time of the change over. However, this can be simple if your follow these guidelines.

First of all, be utterly convinced you are doing the right thing. Be absolutely sure in your own mind, that the diet you currently feed your cat is doing her no good, and the raw diet you are substituting it for is going to do her a lot of good.

If you’re not very convinced, do some more research.

With this thought firmly fixed in your mind, your cat will read your determination and reasons clearly and will know it’s a waste of time to object. A token gesture may be all the objection raised.

Being determined yourself, with also ensure you stick to it, when the going gets tough.

Being aware that a change over to raw food is likely to bring an initial spring clean of a toxin clear-out. This can come in the form of vomiting, diarrhoea, skin eruptions and mild diseases. Although this can look alarming, it is a healthy sign and normally only lasts a few days to a week.

You can reduce these effects by gradually substituting the old food for the new raw food, over a period of about two weeks. Even if the new food is rejected, keeping reducing the old food.

A cat may fast for a few days, making her objection clear. But she will not starve herself. And a fast is a healthy thing all animals should have periodically. Hang in there!

Throw away (or give to your dog) the rejected food. Cats need very fresh food and will reject raw food that is slightly off (dogs, as carrion feeders don’t care).

Smearing the raw food with a tiny amount of a yeast spread or brewers yeast will entice most cats. Discontinue with the yeast spread as soon as the cat starts eating the food, as the high salt content is unhealthy.

Brewers yeast is a healthy supplement in small proportions. And most cats love it.

Once you try to advance the diet to include chicken bones, so healthy for gums and teeth, as well as the most natural form of calcium, your cat may balk again.

Start of with little pieces of chicken without bone. If this is hard to get your cat to eat, then heat very slightly, enough to stir an aroma, without whitening it. Once this is taken, start introducing pieces of chicken with bone in. Chop it up in to bite size chunks.

When you can hear the bone being crunched, you can increase the sizes, until the whole chicken neck, or half a chicken wing, is happily accepted. Even cats without teeth get to love the pieces of chicken and bone.

This process may sound an ordeal, but in reality it is a labour of love, to improve the health of your cat

Weight Loss Tips For a Low Carb Diet

By admin on February 27, 2010

For many years, going on a diet to lose weight meant cutting carbs drastically, or eliminating them altogether. Although this craze seems to be quieting a little, low carbs diets are still popular, and can be effective. Here are some tips on implementing a low carb diet to your lifestyle.

Why Carbs Are Important

Carbohydrates are important for maintaining our energy levels. Without carbs, we would be lethargic, weak, irritable and mentally drowsy. They are loaded with vitamins, minerals and fiber necessary to stay regular. The problem that many people seem to have is that they consume far too many carbohydrates, as well as the wrong types.

Why Low Carb Diets Help in Weight Loss

Lowering your carb intake – or at least simple carbohydrates such as white breads and sweets – can drastically lower your overall calorie consumption. Foods such as white bread, white pasta and fried potatoes are very high in calories. On the other hand, a complex carb such as a baked potato with limited dressing and seasoning can fill you up without overloading on the calories.

Since simple carbohydrates are eliminated from a low carb diet, you are encouraged to get your carb sources from foods such as fruits and whole grains, which are very high in fiber and are loaded with nutrients. In addition, low carb diets force you to get a lot of your calories from lean proteins, which are slow to digest and help with muscle building.

When you limit your carb intake, your body is forced to look to its fat stores for energy. If you couple this carb cutting with calorie cutting, you will be making your body burn calories and fat rather the burning over-loaded amounts of carbs that you were once feeding your body. This will inevitably result in weight loss.

Suggestions for a Low Carb Diet

Here are some useful suggestions when incorporating a low carb diet to your lifestyle:

* Drink lots of water
* Eat smaller, more frequent meals to keep your metabolic rate up
* Get your protein sources from chicken, fish, eggs and beans
* Eat as many vegetables as you wish, as long as they are not drenched in fattening and calorie-dense dressings
* Use low calorie spices such as sea salt or cayenne pepper to add some flavor to your foods
* Load up on the fiber to keep you regular and to keep you feeling full for longer periods of time

Make sure you don’t eliminate carbohydrates completely. Doing so will drain you of energy and mental alertness that you require to perform everyday functions. Your brain needs carbs for its fuel, so give it what it needs, the healthy way.

Thyroid Diet – A Healthy Thyroid Diet Eating Plan For Fast Weight Loss

By admin on February 26, 2010

Millions of people suffer from an underactive functioning of the thyroid gland (hypothyroid). Some are aware of the problem, but the majority of them are not. Apart from the other health repercussions this condition has, it tends to make the metabolism less effective. The good news is that you can accomplish the desired weight loss as long as you adopt the right thyroid diet.

It is essential to find out more about the specifics of the problem before deciding on its optimal solution. The slow metabolism generally provides for weight gain and prevents the body from burning fat quickly and efficiently. There are a number of ways in which the metabolic function can be improved, but the problem is that some may interfere with the production of hormones in the thyroid gland and make the hypothyroid condition even worse. For this reason people suffering from this medical condition have to be extremely careful about going on a specific diet since its ineffective treatment can lead to serious health problems such as cardiovascular system diseases, diabetes and cancer. Thus, you need a special thyroid diet. The good news is that it exists.

You will achieve sufficient weight loss, but you have to be patient and above all motivated. You have to stick to the thyroid diet and most importantly resist your cravings. The optimal results might not come quickly, but they will come and when this happens you will be slimmer and better looking as well as healthier. You can be certain that adopting the right type of diet is effective – this is what doctors recommend to patients for dealing with both the hypothyroid and obesity problem without making the former worse. There are also exercises that you can try as there are specific ones that tend to stimulate both the function of the gland and in turn metabolism. Plus, being physically active always aids the slimming process.

The thyroid diet should be rich in foods that aid for the improvement of the metabolism and that stimulate the gland to produce hormones. The products that contain fiber are among the best choice – the whole grain breads, cereals and pasta should be frequently present in your menu. It is essential to reduce your calorie intake and the best way to do it is to have smaller portions of food. Also, by having smaller meals more frequently you provide for the improvement of the metabolic and thyroid function as well as for more effective weight loss. You should definitely cut the intake of high glycemic carbohydrates such as the sugar. It is important not to use caffeine products for slimming down as this ingredient affects negatively the thyroid.

Keeping the thyroid diet can help you in two ways at the same time. Given that it can include a variety of vegetables, nuts and fish apart from the whole grains rich on fiber is a guarantee that it is going to be healthy and enjoyable. Such a specific nutritional plan is not hard to keep, but most importantly it is more than effective and beneficial.

Calorie Shifting Diet From Fat Loss 4 Idiots Actually Works!

By admin on February 25, 2010

Losing weight… This is something so many of us have been fighting to do for many years now, with no success. I have been dealing with my weight for many years now, over 20 that I can remember. I have been a skinny, well formed man for many of my earlier years, but soon after hitting 25, my metabolism seems to have all but stopped, and the pounds started to suddenly pile on uncontrollably.

It was only a couple years later that I realized I had a problem, reaching over 250 pounds.. My clothing did not fit any more, and my belt holes started to stretch and finally, broke all together which was my wake up call to do something about my problem.

I have tried many products to try and lose weight, but none really worked. Sure I lost weight, a few pounds here and a few pounds there, but nothing that really helped, and nothing that stayed off… It almost seems like my body becomes used to to the new diet, and starts to add the weight back on.

I needed something… anything that would burn fat. I handed out several hundred dollars trying various diet supplements, pills, drinks, and whatnot.. Some of them made me jittery due to the large amounts of caffeine, and others were much worse but in the end, I found none that actually worked. They all seemed to be powered by marketing with no actual results.

I was deeply depressed, for quite a few years I might add, trying everything I can find. By this time, my doctor was getting nervous, and told me I had no other option but to start shedding pounds. There was little he could recommend that I have not tried already. This made me very upset, and felt helpless. With a recommendation from one of my good friends, I looked into a new calorie shifting diet that, at first glance I sort of laughed at, but after actually giving it a try, it was exactly what I was searching for!

Not only did I lose all the extra fat, or ‘fluffyness’ as my wife likes to call it, but I actually started to feel motivated, with high levels of energy, and a renewed sense of well being! I felt.. well.. awesome! It took several years of experimenting, but in the end it took only one health plan that truly worked for me. My doctor is pleased, my wife and kids are very happy, but most of all, I am pleased with myself again.

The key to my success is a well known diet plan known as Fat Loss 4 Idiots, and has done wonders for me, and my family. They offer a Diet Handbook that will also show you how to dine at a restaurant, and fast food places, the way to eat during late night parties, which vegetables and grocery items are good for your health, which foods you must avoid, and more. There is also a handbook called Beyond Calories, which gives you great advice to drop weight, and get slim even faster.

What is even better, and what has been the key to my success, is my diet! They offer an on-line diet generator that will produce the meal plans for 11 days based on the fools you like, and can eat. (for example, it accounts for vegetarians, as well as people with dietary restrictions). It is great, and the service is available for life once you get it (no subscription to worry about).

I found this information invaluable, and the dietary changes they suggest will make you sexy and skinny in no time flat! Sometimes everybody needs some help with their weight. Now there is something you can do about it!
